No Particular Reason

I wasn’t prepared for something so graceful
Lifting her head, sleepy but still aware
I wasn’t prepared for something so dainty
The straw in her bed, magnificent creature

No-one told her why they needed all those horses
For no particular reason
No-one told her why she’s towing all those corpses
For no particular reason

I wasn’t prepared for something majestic
Simple and strong, just like a unicorn
She’s so much alive, her muscles elastic
A speckled white horse in Arlington Cemetery

No-one told her why they needed all those horses
For no particular reason
No-one told her why she’s towing all those corpses
For no particular reason
